JERSEY TRIATHLON COMMONWEALTH BULLETIN NO 008– UPDATE DECEMBER 2016

6 December 2016

Dear Commonwealth Games Hopefuls

I had a meeting with Commonwealth Games Association Council today and have some useful update information for you, which we can discuss at the AGM on Thursday

FUNDING / SPONSORSHIP

The Commonwealth Games Association has funding (more details to be announced soon) but it is important to note that this funding is only available to support Commonwealth Games Hopefuls if they do the following…

Submit their log books each quarter (See note1)
Submit a summary of their 2016 programme/results
Submit a summary of their 2017 plans

Note1 All JTC Athletes use Training Peaks so it is easy to export from Training Peaks into Excel and submit that to Commonwealth Games Association [administrator@cgaj.org] with cc to TimHJRogers@hougue.com and nick@tpscoach.com

If you do not do this you cannot be eligible for Commonwealth Games Association funding

The funding will be ….

Level 0 – for athletes a long way from their Key Performance Indicators £0 NIL
Level 1 – for near their Key Performance Indicators £250
Level 2 – for met their Key Performance Indicators + all testing & meetings etc £500
Level 3 – for exceed their Key Performance Indicators + all testing & meetings etc £1000

However you need to bid (ie put in an application) for funding.

Applications for funding by 20th Dec will get money by 3rd January. If you don’t bid someone else will and the money will go to someone else. This is why it is so important that you have a coach and a plan for 2017 – as noted in earlier email/newsletter.

Reminder…

All Commonwealth Hopefuls will be asked to confirm if they have a coach, and if they have a forward looking training programme from now to Gold Coast 2018. The JTC will hold the coach + athlete responsible for attending the testing, meeting the KPIs, and achieving the  standards required toward the necessary criteria and standards by May 2017.

COMMONWEALTH GAMES TICKETS

Friends and family tickets go on sale Q1 2017 on a first-come, first-served and pay-up-front basis. This is a friends and family offer, but they only 100% guaranteed way you’ll get tickets for Commonwealth Games. Public sales (in May 2017) will be more ‘…only if your lucky…’ Maybe start writing a note to Father Christmas about what you want in January???
ATHLETE TEAM DAY

Reminder 22 April 2017 – you will be sent an invitation via EventBrite – may sure you accept the invitation!

Kind regards, Tim

COMMONWEALTH GAMES GOLD COAST 2018 – SPRINT SELECTION

COMMONWEALTH GAMES GOLD COAST 2018 – SPRINT SELECTION

There are a lot of emails going around about meetings, standards, athletes etc., I know a good number of them are from me! So to help consolidate all the information and hopefully formalise properly for the purposes of good governance and both JTC Committee and Commonwealth Games Association I have drafted this note.

THE EVENT

The Gold Coast 2018 Triathlon has been changed to a Sprint / Team-Relay event, and not “Olympic distance” . People wishing to participate in the Team-Relay event must have taken part in the Sprint event.

This has caused us to re-think who might go, and the standards and KPIs for selection and targeting performance. It may also affect our training plans, training camps, and preparatory races/trials in the period up to Gold Coast 2018.

REGISTERED ATHELETS

I have emailed both the Commonwealth and Island Games athletes to confirm/check who is interested in the Gold Coast 2018 Triathlon Sprint / Team-Relay events. The following have ‘registered’ their interest either via me or Fintan ..

demri@me.com;
tomperchard86@gmail.com;

POSSIBLE CRITERIA

This is up for debate, but we need to agree soon to give athletes a fair understanding of what is expected. I looked up the UK national sprint champs as a guide

It seems reasonable as a standard that Commonwealth Games Gold Coast 2018 athletes are within 10% of being the national champion for their country?

NEXT STEPS

I propose that there is a meeting of JTC Committee to review and approve the standards, athletes etc., which are then written up and presented to the Commonwealth Games Association before the end-November.

JERSEY TRIATHLON COMMONWEALTH BULLETIN NO 007– UPDATE OCTOBER 2016

JERSEY COMMONWEALTH TRIATHLON UPDATE 31 OCTOBER 2016

I had a meeting with PdF today and have some useful update information for you

GOLD COAST 2018 RACE, STANDARDS AND ATHLETES

The race will be a sprint and there will be a relay which will be open to 2 men + 1 women provided they participate in the sprint. This to be confirmed.

Now that know that it is a sprint event we need to check/update our criteria, performance indicators, and also review which athletes are interested in Commonwealth Games Gold Coast 2018

We might add or remove some athletes and we need to make sure we notify the Commonwealth Games Association as soon as possible and then get these people onto the performance programme and reporting to the Commonwealth Games Association.

I will arrange a meeting with the JTC Committee to progress this.

REPORTING SUCCESS AND PERFORMANCE INDICATORS

With the team capped at 33 it looks like not everyone from Jersey who achieves the standards will be able to go. Commonwealth Games Association will look at performance indicators when making selection. You must continue to supply a quarterly log book update.

Additionally the Commonwealth Games Association has *suggested* that each athlete creates a report listing race results/outcomes.  They want to use this to evaluate race performance as well as training effort (from quarterly log book update)
·         Local races, results and times,
·         UK / National races, results and times,
·         Other key results eg swim, bike or run times

I will arrange a meeting with the JTC Committee to progress this.

CYCLING TESTING OPPORTUNITY

PdF today mentioned that Andy H has some lactate testing kit and also a cycling guru coming to Jersey 25-28 November to give advice on bike position etc. He also said that Cycling made access for Triathletes for this. Please contact 'Andy Hamon' <lelayengineers@hotmail.co.uk>; 'Andrew Hamon' <ahengineers@hotmail.com>;

SWIMMING TESTING OPPORTUNITY

PdF today mentioned that Nathan has a swim guru coming to Jersey 3rd December who may give advice on swim stroke etc. Please contact 'nathanjegoutigers@outlook.com'

SPORT MEETING AND ONE-TO-ONE WITH COMMONWEALTH GAMES ASSOCIATION

PdF and Commonwealth Games Association would like to meet ALL potential athletes for Commonwealth Games Gold Coast 2018 soon. He has suggested  5:30pm Weds 9 November to fit with the Jersey Triathlon Track Session

This is very soon and I need to see if I can confirm a date and access to the rooms there.

I will arrange a meeting with the JTC Committee to progress this, together with a discussion about who else we need to invite now that this is a sprint event and we may have more / new athletes for Gold Coast 2018

LINK-UP WITH ISLAND GAMES ATHELETES

Many of the issues for the Commonwealth Athletes and the need for support, coaching, grant-funding etc are the same and it makes sense if we can all meet together. The Commonwealth Games Association has funding for….

Sports – eg to help all triathlon
Teams – eg to help Commonwealth Games Gold Coast Team
Individuals – eg to help special needs

It makes sense to co-ordinate our efforts and funding.

Maybe 5:30pm Weds 9 November to fit with the Jersey Triathlon Track Session

Kind regards, Tim
