JERSEY TRIATHLON COMMONWEALTH BULLETIN NO 006– UPDATE SEPTEMBER 2016

POSTPONED PERFORMANCE PATHWAY MEETINGS

See below email from Paul du Feu – because there is remaining uncertainty about the details of the Commonwealth Games Gold Coast Triathlon the Commonwealth Games Association think it best to postpone discussion about standards, training and progress until November.

Subject: RE: Jersey Triathlon Commonwealth Bulletin 005

Hi Tim
let's be patient!!! though I'm fairly stretched by the CGF on this one... think first week November may be a good target

ref funding I think bringing over coaches or having intensive weekends (facilities paid for by us) with local guest coaches would be ideal as it also benefits the youngsters, new generation.
e.g a swim bike long weekend with 3 or swim sessions and bike sessions with coaches (use the cycle testing equipment we bought?) ..use local people or import

going away on camps is only for the selected few....

Paul

GRANT / ATHLETE FUNDING
There may be some modest funding available from Commonwealth Games Association for Commonwealth/ Athlete preparation. I suggest it is worth meeting soon (possibly before  Performance Pathway Meetings) to agree what support/funding the Commonwealth Athletes might benefit from.
Things to consider
·         Contribution to costs of coaching
·         Contribution to costs of equipment
·         Contribution to costs of training camp
·         Contribution to costs of physio / strength and conditioning

JERSEY TRIATHLON COMMONWEALTH BULLETIN NO 005– UPDATE SEPTEMBER 2016

JERSEY TRIATHLON COMMONWEALTH BULLETIN NO 005– UPDATE SEPTEMBER 2016

This bulletin is following the Commonwealth Games Association meeting 13 Sept and ahead of the Performance Pathway Meetings discussed in the last bulletin and emailed to all athletes,

Reminder: The Commonwealth Games Association  have set aside Thursday 13th Oct, Fri 14th, Sat 15th, Sun 16th, Mon 17th, Tues 18th and Wed 19th  for meetings with the athletes + team manager(s)

PERFORMANCE PATHWAY MEETINGS

The main points The Commonwealth Games Association  hope to cover are:
1.       Review of log books and of 2016 so far
2.       CGAJ support programmes
3.       Look ahead to the next 12 months
4.       Discuss ideas specific to the games, (travel dates, training, competition etc.)
5.       Any Other Business

It would be ideal if all the Jersey Commonwealth Hopefuls could come to ONE meeting so that we are all co-ordinated and share and understand the same messages. I think it will be important that we are all together – including Sports Officer, Vaughan Robinson and myself as Team Manager.

See

Can I suggest we try to do this after work (after 5:30pm ) on Thursday 13th Oct

CHANGES IN RACE, SELECTION AND CRITERIA

This has been me mentioned in Bulletin No3. There is a meeting with Commonwealth Games Association on Friday 16th September when we hope to FINALISE Race, Selection And Criteria. We will then publish shortly after.

Team Relay information  is still unknown but  the Commonwealth Games Association hope to find out soon.

Note that the Commonwealth Games Association is limited to taking 33 athletes in total – for the whole “Team Jersey”

GRANT / ATHLETE FUNDING
There may be some modest funding available from Commonwealth Games Association for Commonwealth/ Athlete preparation. I suggest it is worth meeting soon (possibly before  Performance Pathway Meetings) to agree what support/funding the Commonwealth Athletes might benefit from.
Things to consider
·         Contribution to costs of coaching
·         Contribution to costs of equipment
·         Contribution to costs of training camp
·         Contribution to costs of physio / strength and conditioning

TEAMWORK AND CO-ORDINATION
I think we might set-up a (quarterly?) ‘coffee morning’  meeting with Commonwealth Games Team hopefuls as an information/team building/co-ordination meeting.

This may be best timed after our Saturday morning bike sessions.

I am also keen to maintain a Newsletter/Web-Bulletin (which we also promote on Facebook) to help open communications. I would be interested in your views on this.

QUEENS BATTON RELAY

Details to be advised Nov ‘16, but expect the batton to be in Jersey Sept ’17. If you are interested in being active participant in the QBR please let me know and I will pass to the Commonwealth Games Association.

SCHOOLS TWIINING

Each Games schools from each nation are twinned with the host nation. If you are interested in being active participant in the this please let me know and I will pass to the Commonwealth Games Association.

MARKETING AND SOCIAL MEDIA

We probably need to think about Jersey Triathlon Marketing And Social Media
·         Do we just use Jersey Triathlon web, twitter, facebook, blog or set-up something for the Commonwealth Games ?
·         Do we publish/copy all our press releases and updates to Commonwealth Games Association for them to post on their web, twitter, or facebook?

Suggest we discuss when we start our‘coffee morning’  meeting

JERSEY TRIATHLON COMMONWEALTH BULLETIN NO 004 – UPDATE SEPTEMBER 2016

JERSEY TRIATHLON COMMONWEALTH BULLETIN NO 004 – UPDATE SEPTEMBER 2016

There has been an extended quiet period since the last Bulletin No 003 and I feel it is useful to post something to keep everyone up-to-speed and ensure both transparency and understanding about Commonwealth Games Gold Coast 2018

CHANGES IN RACE, SELECTION AND CRITERIA

Hopefully everyone already knows that Commonwealth Games Gold Coast 2018 has been changed from Olympic Distance to a Sprint Distance Race.  This has forced a re-think on the Race, Selection And Criteria and the JTC Committee are working with the Jersey Commonwealth Games Association to agree standards, KPIs etc.  At the same time we are also working with the JCGA in respect of the Triathlon Relay. We are hoping to conclude this soon and will publish the criteria and KPI’s as soon as possible.

This potentially opens up new possibilities and new opportunities for new people.

KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS AND TESTS

As noted above, these are yet to be finalised/agreed with Jersey Commonwealth Games Association but as a heads-up we are likely to do this…

1.       There are two swim KPI’s –the KPI’s are based on 400m and 750m
2.       There are two run session KPI’s  - the KPI is based on 3000m and 5000m

Additionally, as you know from email bulletins we have the next test soon…

14 September - Run Time Trial - 3,000m at FB fields

The idea is that we accumulate some performance results and track people's progress. If you cannot make this session we will be able to do another.  These time trials will also be attended by the Island Games Hopefuls and also Academy standard juniors

The Team Coach is Nick Saunders, if you need detailed information about the tests please contact Nick. At the very least we should be able to indicate the swim/run times others are doing to give you a realistic understanding of the standards etc.

REGISTERED ATHLETES

We have a list of Commonwealth hopefuls and have notified that list to the Commonwealth Games Association. Given the above situation we have ‘re-opened’ expressions of interest a while ago via email.  Hopefully everyone is informed and up-to-date. If you believe someone isn’t please let me know.

LOGS BOOKS AND UPDATES

One of the things that has NOT changed is the need to maintain log-books. We intend that all our athletes use the “training peaks” log book system and the 12 weekly reports to Commonwealth Games Association [administrator@cgaj.org] will be based on a summary output from this system for each athlete.

Log books should be submitted to  Commonwealth Games Association [administrator@cgaj.org] on each of these dates

4th April 2016
3rd July 2016
2nd October 2016
31 December 2016

If you have any comments or concerns about this please get in contact.

PERFORMANCE PATHWAY MEETINGS

We have set aside Thursday 13th Oct, Fri 14th, Sat 15th, Sun 16th, Mon 17th, Tues 18th and Wed 19th  for meetings with the Jersey Commonwealth Games Association

**IMPORTANT**

Since you are going to - Swim Time Trial at Haute Vallee swimming pool - 11 September 9am perhaps you can decide what date from the list above is going to suit you all.

The main points we hope to cover are:
